Mechanism of Action
Exemestane is a steroidal irreversible aromatase inhibitor that covalently inactivates CYP19A1, blocking conversion of androgens to estrogens. This reduces circulating estrogen levels and suppresses estrogendependent cellular proliferation.
Benefits and Advantages
Used in breastcancer endocrineaxis modelling, aromatase inhibition assays, steroidbiosynthesis research, and antiestrogenic pharmacology.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include hot flashes, fatigue, arthralgia, bone density loss and rare hepatotoxicity. Handle with irreversiblearomatase inhibitor precautions.
