Product Description
Mechanism of Action
Catharanthine is an indolemonoterpenoid alkaloid produced by *Catharanthus roseus*. It is a key biosynthetic precursor for the formation of dimeric vinca alkaloids such as vinblastine and vincristine. Mechanistically, catharanthine participates in peroxidase-mediated oxidative coupling with vindoline, forming the core bisindole scaffold required for microtubule-binding anticancer compounds. Although not highly cytotoxic itself, it can modulate microtubule assembly and influence cellular redox status at higher concentrations.
Benefits and Advantages
Used in alkaloid-biosynthesis studies, metabolic-engineering research, plant secondary-metabolite pathway mapping, precursor supply optimisation, semi-synthetic vinca alkaloid development, and structureactivity investigations. Critical in biopharmaceutical precursor production.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include mild cytotoxicity, CNS effects at high doses, and irritation upon dermal or respiratory exposure. Handle as a bioactive plant-derived alkaloid with appropriate PPE.
Only GMP materials will be supplied, logistics all according to GDP.
