Mechanism of Action

Cefuroxime is a second‑generation cephalosporin active against respiratory, ENT and soft‑tissue pathogens. It inhibits PBPs, blocking peptidoglycan crosslinking. It shows improved β‑lactamase stability and good penetration into respiratory tissues.

Benefits and Advantages

Used in respiratory‑pathogen research, β‑lactam SAR studies, pharmacokinetic comparisons, gram‑positive/negative susceptibility modelling and surgical‑prophylaxis pathway analysis.

Side Effects and Risks

Risks include allergic reactions, diarrhoea, dysbiosis, rare hepatic disturbances and possible nephrotoxicity. Handle with β‑lactam antibiotic precautions.
