Product Description

Mechanism of Action

Furacilin (nitrofurazone‑type nitrofuran) is a nitrofuran antimicrobial that undergoes enzymatic reduction of its nitro group within bacterial cells, generating reactive intermediates that attack DNA, proteins and other macromolecules. This multi‑target damage leads to inhibition of replication and cell death.

Benefits and Advantages

Used in topical antimicrobial research, nitrofuran redox‑cycling studies, DNA‑damage assays and wound‑care formulation development.

Side Effects and Risks

Risks include contact dermatitis, local irritation, rare systemic hypersensitivity and potential mutagenicity with chronic exposure. Handle with nitrofuran‑class safety measures.
