Mechanism of Action
Dronedarone hydrochloride is a multichannel antiarrhythmic agent (class III with class I, II and IV properties). It blocks K⁺ channels (prolonging repolarization), inhibits Na⁺ channels, exhibits non‑competitive antiadrenergic activity, and weakly blocks L‑type Ca²⁺ channels. Its design reduces iodine‑related toxicity compared to amiodarone.

Used in cardiac electrophysiology research, arrhythmia‑modelling studies, multichannel‑blocker SAR analysis, and cardiomyocyte action‑potential assays.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include hepatotoxicity, QT prolongation, bradycardia, heart failure exacerbation and pulmonary toxicity (rare). Handle with antiarrhythmic‑drug precautions.
