Mechanism of Action
Donepezil hydrochloride is the watersoluble salt of donepezil offering improved formulation stability. It retains selective AChE inhibition, leading to enhancement of cortical cholinergic neurotransmission. It exhibits linear pharmacokinetics and high CNS penetration due to its tertiary amine structure.
Benefits and Advantages
Used in CNS cholinergic research, enzymatic inhibition assays, neurocognitive modelling, and comparative bioequivalence studies for AChE inhibitors.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include nausea, bradycardia, dizziness, vivid dreams, AV block and cholinergic overactivation at high doses. Handle with CNSactive cholinesteraseinhibitor precautions.
