Donepezil hydrochloride is the water‑soluble salt of donepezil offering improved formulation stability. It retains selective AChE inhibition, leading to enhancement of cortical cholinergic neurotransmission. It exhibits linear pharmacokinetics and high CNS penetration due to its tertiary amine structure.

Side Effects and Risks
Risks include nausea, bradycardia, dizziness, vivid dreams, AV block and cholinergic overactivation at high doses. Handle with CNS‑active cholinesterase‑inhibitor precautions.
