Mechanism of Action
Deferiprone is a bidentate ironchelating agent that binds Fe with high affinity, forming a 3:1 drugtoiron complex. It reduces toxic iron accumulation in tissues, prevents Fentonreactiondriven oxidative damage, and modulates ironregulatory pathways at the cellular level.

Used in ironoverload models, chelationtherapy research, oxidativestress assays, irontransport studies and mitochondrialdamage modelling.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include agranulocytosis, neutropenia, arthralgia, gastrointestinal discomfort, zinc depletion and hepatic dysfunction. Handle with hematologicrisk controls.
