Mechanism of action
Biphenamine hydrochloride is a tertiary amine compound with dual local-anaesthetic and sympathomimetic actions. It blocks voltage‑gated sodium channels in peripheral nerves, inhibiting action-potential initiation, while also stimulating adrenergic receptors to produce mild vasoconstriction. This duality increases duration of local anaesthesia.

Used in peripheral nerve-conduction studies, sodium-channel electrophysiology, anaesthetic pharmacology, adrenergic‑modulator comparisons and vasoconstrictor–anaesthetic synergy research.
Side effects and risks
Risks include CNS excitation, cardiac arrhythmias, local irritation and hypersensitivity reactions. Requires handling under local‑anaesthetic and sympathomimetic safety protocols.
