Mechanism of action
Bisoprolol is a highly selective adrenergic receptor antagonist that reduces heart rate, cardiac output and renin release, leading to decreased myocardial oxygen demand and improved haemodynamics. Its selectivity minimises bronchoconstriction and metabolic interference compared with non-selective blockers.

Side effects and risks
Risks include bradycardia, hypotension, fatigue, AV-block progression and rare bronchospasm. Handle with cardiovascularactive compound precautions.
