Product Description
Mechanism of action
Bibrocathol is a polyiodinated aromatic compound with antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and astringent activity. Its mechanism involves protein precipitation on contact with mucosal surfaces, reducing exudation and forming a protective barrier. The iodine component contributes mild antiseptic effects through oxidative disruption of microbial proteins and enzymes.

Used in ophthalmology research, mucosal-barrier modelling, anti-inflammatory topical-agent development, iodine-based disinfectant studies and comparative astringent-effect profiling. Valuable in corneal-surface protection and tear-film interaction studies.
Side effects and risks
Risks include ocular irritation, transient burning sensation, hypersensitivity to iodine and potential staining of tissues. Requires careful handling under ophthalmic-compound safety guidelines.
