Mechanism of action
Bezylamine (benzylamine) is a primary aliphatic amine that participates in nucleophilic substitution, reductive amination, amide formation and Schiff-base chemistry. In biological systems it acts as a monoamine oxidase (MAO) substrate, undergoing oxidative deamination to yield benzaldehyde, ammonia and hydrogen peroxide. This makes bezylamine a useful probe substrate for MAO activity and oxidative-stress pathway research.

Applied in organic synthesis, MAO-kinetics studies, redox-biology investigations, pharmaceutical intermediate development, and mechanistic modelling of amine metabolism. Its reactivity provides value as a selective substrate in enzyme assays and as a building block in synthetic medicinal chemistry workflows.

Risks include irritation to skin, eyes and respiratory tract, as well as potential sensitisation. Handle as a volatile alkylamine using appropriate ventilation and PPE.
