AMBROXOL

Ambroxol is a mucolytic agent that enhances mucus clearance by stimulating surfactant release and improving ciliary activity. It is used in respiratory disorders characterized by thick secretions. Benefits include easier expectoration and reduced cough severity. Side effects are mild and may include nausea, dry mouth, or gastrointestinal discomfort.

Product Description

Mechanism of action

Ambroxol (base) shares the same pharmacodynamic properties as the hydrochloride salt: it modifies bronchial mucus structure, enhances surfactant production and stimulates mucociliary clearance. By reducing mucus viscosity and improving transport, it supports more efficient elimination of secretions from the respiratory tract.

Benefits and advantages

The base form can be useful in specific formulation strategies, for example in lipid-based or non-aqueous systems, or where control over counterions is important. It maintains the same mucolytic and expectorant benefits that have made ambroxol a well-established option for respiratory support.

Side effects and risks

Adverse events, precautions and risk profile correspond to those described for ambroxol hydrochloride, including rare but serious cutaneous reactions. Manufacturing of the base requires the same occupational safety standards, with appropriate engineering controls and personal protective equipment.

Professional use only. Supplied exclusively to licensed manufacturers and institutions.
