Mechanism of Action
Cytarabine (AraC) is a pyrimidine nucleoside analogue that is phosphorylated to AraCTP, which competitively inhibits DNA polymerase and is incorporated into DNA, terminating chain elongation. It is highly specific for Sphase cells.

Used in leukemiamodel research, DNApolymerase inhibition studies, nucleosidemetabolism modelling, cellcycle analysis, and apoptosis investigations.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include severe myelosuppression, neurotoxicity, ocular toxicity, GI damage and immunosuppression. Handle with strict cytotoxicagent containment.
