Mechanism of Action
Clobutinol is a centrally acting nonopioid antitussive. It modulates the cough centre in the medulla oblongata by reducing neural excitability, likely through sodiumchannel modulation and central reflex suppression. It has no significant opioidreceptor activity.

Used in coughreflex pathway research, medullaryneurotransmission studies, antitussive mechanism comparisons and nonopioid CNSmodulator assays.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include cardiac arrhythmias (QT prolongation), dizziness, CNS depression and hypersensitivity. Handle with caution due to cardiotoxic potential.
