Mechanism of Action
Clinofibrate is a fibrateclass hypolipidemic agent that activates peroxisome proliferatoractivated receptoralpha (PPAR). Activation enhances oxidation of fatty acids, increases lipoproteinlipase activity, lowers serum triglycerides and promotes HDL elevation. It also modulates inflammatory gene expression and improves lipidtransport efficiency.

Used in hepaticlipid metabolism research, PPAR signalling studies, dyslipidemiamodelling experiments, triglyceridelowering drugscreening assays and fibrate SAR investigations.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include hepatotoxicity, myopathy (higher risk with statins), gallstone formation, GI upset and elevated liver enzymes. Handle with PPARactive compound precautions.
