Product Description

Mechanism of Action

Ciprofloxacin hydrochloride is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV. By stabilizing the enzyme–DNA cleavage complex, it prevents DNA supercoiling, replication and chromosomal separation, ultimately producing lethal double-strand DNA breaks. The HCl salt improves solubility and aqueous stability.

Benefits and Advantages

Used in DNA-gyrase pathway research, fluoroquinolone resistance modelling (QRDR mutations), PK/PD simulation studies, biofilm-penetration research, gram-negative susceptibility assays and medicinal-chemistry salt optimization.

Side Effects and Risks

Risks include tendon rupture, neuropathy, QT prolongation, CNS excitation, phototoxicity, dysglycemia and hepatotoxicity. Handle with fluoroquinolone-class precautions.
