Mechanism of action
Biphenamine hydrochloride is a tertiary amine compound with dual local-anaesthetic and sympathomimetic actions. It blocks voltagegated sodium channels in peripheral nerves, inhibiting action-potential initiation, while also stimulating adrenergic receptors to produce mild vasoconstriction. This duality increases duration of local anaesthesia.

Side effects and risks
Risks include CNS excitation, cardiac arrhythmias, local irritation and hypersensitivity reactions. Requires handling under localanaesthetic and sympathomimetic safety protocols.
