Product Description
Mechanism of action
Aprotinin is a serine protease inhibitor that inhibits kallikrein, plasmin, trypsin, and other proteolytic enzymes. Its mechanism reduces fibrinolysis, inflammation, and bleeding by stabilising fibrin clots and suppressing proteasemediated tissue degradation. Structurally, aprotinin is a small basic polypeptide (Kunitztype inhibitor).
Benefits and advantages
Crucial in coagulation cascade research, inflammation studies, protease kinetics, biomaterial haemostasis evaluation, and surgical bloodloss modelling. Also used as a stabiliser in enzyme assays to prevent proteolytic degradation.
Side effects and risks
Risk of anaphylaxis, renal dysfunction, and thrombotic tendencies. Handle with biosafetylevel precautions due to peptide bioactivity.
