Product Description
Mechanism of action
Bicalutamide is a non-steroidal androgen receptor (AR) antagonist that competitively inhibits binding of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and testosterone to AR, preventing transcription of androgen-responsive genes. It blocks AR nuclear translocation and impairs coactivator recruitment, suppressing proliferation of androgen-dependent cells.
Benefits and advantages
Widely used in prostate-cancer research, AR signalling studies, endocrine-therapy modelling, resistance-mechanism investigation and structure–activity analysis of antiandrogens. A reference compound for evaluating next-generation AR degraders and inhibitors.
Side effects and risks
Risks include hepatotoxicity, gynecomastia, hot flushes, endocrine disruption, fatigue and QT prolongation. Handle using cytotoxic and hormonal-active compound containment.
