Product Description
Mechanism of action
Bleomycin is a glycopeptide antibiotic with potent antitumour activity. It binds to DNA and, in the presence of Fe and oxygen, induces formation of free radicals that cause single and doublestrand DNA breaks. This leads to apoptosis via DNAdamage checkpoint activation and inhibition of DNA synthesis.

Used extensively in oncology research, DNAdamage pathway studies, free-radical mechanistic modelling, chromosomalbreakage assays, pulmonarytoxicity investigations and radiomimetic compound comparisons.
Side effects and risks
Risks include pulmonary fibrosis, mucositis, dermatitis, myelosuppression and hypersensitivity reactions. Requires cytotoxic compound handling with closedsystem transfer and respiratory protection.
