Mechanism of action
Bromocriptine mesylate is a dopamine Dreceptor agonist derived from ergot alkaloids. It suppresses prolactin secretion, stimulates dopaminergic pathways and reduces growthhormone release. It also exerts metabolic effects via modulation of CNS dopamine rhythms.

Side effects and risks
Risks include nausea, dizziness, orthostatic hypotension, hallucinations, vasospasm and rare fibrotic complications. Handle with caution as a dopaminergic and ergotderived compound.
