Mechanism of Action
Dexamethasone acetate is a long‑acting esterified glucocorticoid with enhanced tissue retention. After enzymatic de‑esterification, active dexamethasone binds cytosolic GR receptors, suppressing immune and inflammatory pathways. It reduces capillary permeability, cytokine production and prostaglandin synthesis.
Benefits and Advantages
Used in depot‑steroid modelling, GR‑binding research, long‑acting anti‑inflammatory studies, ophthalmic‑delivery research and immunomodulatory assays.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include adrenal suppression, ocular hypertension, systemic glucocorticoid effects and delayed wound healing. Handle as a potent esterified corticosteroid.
