Mechanism of Action
Fusidic acid is a narrowspectrum steroidal antibiotic that binds elongation factor G (EFG) on the bacterial ribosome, locking the EFGGDP complex and preventing translocation during protein elongation. This leads to bacteriostatic effects against grampositive organisms.

Side Effects and Risks
Potential hepatotoxicity (oral or IV), GI disturbances, hypersensitivity reactions and local irritation (topical forms). Handle with care as a potent EFG inhibitor and steroidal antimicrobial.
