Mechanism of Action
Fusidic acid is a narrow‑spectrum steroidal antibiotic that binds elongation factor G (EF‑G) on the bacterial ribosome, locking the EF‑G–GDP complex and preventing translocation during protein elongation. This leads to bacteriostatic effects against gram‑positive organisms.

Used in protein‑synthesis inhibition research, EF‑G structural studies, resistance‑mechanism assays and dermatologic infection models.
Side Effects and Risks
Potential hepatotoxicity (oral or IV), GI disturbances, hypersensitivity reactions and local irritation (topical forms). Handle with care as a potent EF‑G inhibitor and steroidal antimicrobial.
