Mechanism of Action
Erythromycin estolate is a lipophilic lauryl sulfate salt of erythromycin that improves oral stability and absorption. Once absorbed, it dissociates to release active erythromycin that inhibits 50S‑mediated bacterial protein synthesis.

Used in macrolide‑formulation studies, absorption‑enhancement research, ribosomal‑inhibition modelling, and oral‑bioavailability assays.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include hepatotoxicity (higher than other salts), GI irritation and hypersensitivity. Handle with macrolide‑salt precautions.
