Product Description

Mechanism of Action

Ciprofloxacin monohydrate is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV. This prevents supercoiling, replication and chromosome segregation, producing bactericidal DNA damage. The monohydrate form provides enhanced stability for formulation and solid‑state studies.

Benefits and Advantages

Used in gyrase‑target studies, fluoroquinolone‑resistance modelling (QRDR mutations), antimicrobial PK/PD research, biofilm‑penetration assays and gram‑negative susceptibility profiling.

Side Effects and Risks

Risks include tendinopathy, QT prolongation, CNS effects, dysglycemia, phototoxicity and aortic aneurysm risk. Handle with high‑potency quinolone precautions.
