Mechanism of Action
Ciprofloxacin monohydrate is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV. This prevents supercoiling, replication and chromosome segregation, producing bactericidal DNA damage. The monohydrate form provides enhanced stability for formulation and solidstate studies.

Used in gyrasetarget studies, fluoroquinoloneresistance modelling (QRDR mutations), antimicrobial PK/PD research, biofilmpenetration assays and gramnegative susceptibility profiling.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include tendinopathy, QT prolongation, CNS effects, dysglycemia, phototoxicity and aortic aneurysm risk. Handle with highpotency quinolone precautions.
