Mechanism of Action

Ceftibuten is a third‑generation oral cephalosporin with strong gram‑negative activity and resistance to many β‑lactamases. It binds PBPs and inhibits cell‑wall synthesis while demonstrating excellent stability in acidic environments. Highly active against Enterobacteriaceae and select respiratory pathogens.

Benefits and Advantages

Used in oral β‑lactam PK/PD modelling, community‑pathogen resistance studies, Enterobacteriaceae susceptibility profiling, β‑lactamase‑stability investigations and bioavailability research.

Side Effects and Risks

Risks include hypersensitivity, GI effects, dysbiosis and rare hepatic disturbances. Handle with antimicrobial PPE.
