Product Description

Mechanism of Action

Gabapentin is a structural analogue of GABA that binds with high affinity to the α2δ subunit of presynaptic voltage‑gated calcium channels. This reduces calcium influx and decreases release of excitatory neurotransmitters such as glutamate and substance P, leading to antiepileptic and analgesic effects in neuropathic‑pain models.

Benefits and Advantages

Used in neuropathic pain research, calcium‑channel subunit studies, central sensitization models and seizure‑modulation assays.

Side Effects and Risks

Common adverse effects include dizziness, somnolence, ataxia, peripheral edema and weight gain. Handle with CNS‑active antiepileptic precautions.
