Dyclonine is a topical anesthetic that blocks voltage‑gated sodium channels in sensory neurons, inhibiting depolarization and preventing action‑potential propagation. It provides localized analgesia without structural relation to amide or ester anesthetics.

Side Effects and Risks
Risks include mucosal irritation, numbness, hypersensitivity, CNS excitation at high doses and methemoglobinemia (rare). Handle with local‑anesthetic precautions.
