Mechanism of Action
Dihexiverine is an anticholinergic smooth‑muscle relaxant that blocks muscarinic receptors (primarily M₃) in gastrointestinal tissue. It reduces spasms by inhibiting parasympathetic stimulation and decreasing calcium‑dependent smooth‑muscle contraction.
Benefits and Advantages
Used in GI motility research, antispasmodic SAR modelling, muscarinic‑receptor pathway studies, and visceral‑pain mechanism analysis.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include anticholinergic effects: dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, urinary retention, tachycardia and CNS symptoms. Handle with muscarinic‑antagonist precautions.
