Product Description

Mechanism of action

Budesonide is a potent glucocorticoid with high topical anti‑inflammatory activity and strong glucocorticoid‑receptor affinity. After cellular uptake, it suppresses transcription of pro‑inflammatory genes, reduces cytokine release and inhibits immune‑cell recruitment. Its high first‑pass metabolism limits systemic exposure.

Benefits and advantages

Used in respiratory‑inflammation research, gastrointestinal‑inflammation modelling, corticosteroid‑receptor binding studies, aerosol‑formulation development, inflammatory‑pathway assays and comparative glucocorticoid potency testing.

Side effects and risks

Risks include adrenal suppression, oral candidiasis (in inhaled use), dysphonia, systemic glucocorticoid effects at high doses and local irritation. Handle using steroid‑active compound precautions.
