Mechanism of action
Benazepril is an angiotensinconverting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor prodrug converted to benazeprilat. The active metabolite blocks ACEmediated conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, reducing vasoconstriction, aldosterone release and sympathetic activation. This results in decreased systemic vascular resistance and lowered blood pressure.
