Mechanism of action
Arteannuin (arteannuin A) is a sesquiterpene lactone precursor found in Artemisia annua, structurally related to artemisinin. Although arteannuin itself has mild antimalarial activity, it is primarily significant as a biosynthetic precursor in the artemisinin pathway. Its mechanism involves weak mitochondrial and haemassociated disruption in Plasmodium species.

Side effects and risks
Low acute toxicity but may cause irritation or hepatic enzyme induction at high doses. Handle as a bioactive phytochemical.
