Product Description
Mechanism of action
Antazoline sulfate is a salt form of antazoline, a first‑generation H₁‑histamine receptor antagonist. It acts by competitively blocking histamine at H₁ receptors in vascular smooth muscle and mucosal tissues, thereby reducing vasodilation, permeability, and allergic inflammatory reactions. The sulfate salt significantly improves aqueous solubility, allowing rapid onset in ophthalmic and intranasal research models.
Benefits and advantages
Used extensively in ocular allergy studies, mast‑cell mediator research, and short‑acting antihistamine comparisons. The increased solubility profile makes it valuable for evaluating drug transport, permeability, and receptor kinetics in mucosal tissues.
Side effects and risks
Possible local irritation, transient burning, mild sedation, anticholinergic effects, and rare hypersensitivity. Handle using standard PPE due to CNS‑active antihistamine properties.
