ADIPIODONE
Adipiodone is an iodinated contrast medium used to enhance radiographic imaging. It increases X‑ray absorption within targeted tissues, improving anatomical visualization. Benefits include reliable contrast enhancement and diagnostic clarity. Potential side effects include allergic reactions, nausea, warmth sensations, and rare renal stress, requiring caution in patients with impaired kidney function.

Product Description
Mechanism of action
Adipiodone is an iodinated contrast agent used historically for radiographic imaging. Its high iodine content enhances X‑ray attenuation, providing opacification of anatomical structures into which it is introduced. The compound itself has minimal specific pharmacodynamic activity beyond its contrast properties.
Benefits and advantages
Adipiodone allowed visualisation of body cavities and certain organs on conventional X‑ray images when administered by appropriate routes. Its physicochemical characteristics made it suitable for selected diagnostic procedures.
Side effects and risks
As with other iodinated contrast media, adverse reactions can include hypersensitivity responses, discomfort at the injection site, changes in blood pressure and, in susceptible individuals, renal impairment or thyroid dysfunction. Older oil‑based or high‑viscosity contrast agents may have additional risks of embolisation or prolonged tissue retention. Handling of the raw substance requires protective measures against concentrated iodine exposure.
Professional use only. Supplied exclusively to licensed medical manufacturers and institutions.
