Mechanism of Action
Esmolol is an ultra–short‑acting, β₁‑selective adrenergic receptor blocker metabolized rapidly by red‑cell esterases. It decreases heart rate, AV‑node conduction and myocardial oxygen demand with minimal β₂ effects.

Used in cardiovascular‑dynamics modelling, β₁‑selectivity assays, arrhythmia research, and acute hemodynamic‑response simulations.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include hypotension, bradycardia, heart block and bronchospasm (rare at high doses). Handle with cardioselective β‑blocker precautions.
