Product Description

Mechanism of Action

Eflornithine hydrochloride is an irreversible inhibitor of ornithine decarboxylase (ODC), the rate‑limiting enzyme in polyamine synthesis. By blocking putrescine and spermidine production, it disrupts cell proliferation. It is also active against trypanosomes due to their dependence on polyamine pathways.

Benefits and Advantages

Used in polyamine‑biosynthesis research, cell‑cycle studies, antiproliferative mechanism assays, and parasitology modelling (Trypanosoma spp.).

Side Effects and Risks

Risks include anemia, leukopenia, diarrhea, hearing loss and seizures at very high exposures. Handle with antiproliferative‑agent precautions.
