Mechanism of Action
Dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) is an oral heavymetal chelator with two thiol groups that bind lead, mercury and arsenic. It forms stable, watersoluble complexes eliminated via urine. It does not significantly chelate essential minerals, making it safer than BAL.

Used in heavymetal exposure modelling, chelationefficacy assays, toxicology studies, and succinicacid thiolreactivity research.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include nausea, rash, elevated liver enzymes, neutropenia and sulfurrelated odor. Handle with thiolchelatingagent precautions.
