Mechanism of Action
Desmopressin (DDAVP) is a selective vasopressin Vreceptor agonist that enhances renal water reabsorption by increasing aquaporin2 insertion in renal collecting ducts. It also stimulates release of von Willebrand factor and factor VIII from endothelial storage sites, improving hemostasis.

Side Effects and Risks
Risks include hyponatremia, seizures (secondary to low sodium), edema, headache and rare thrombotic events. Handle with hormoneanalogue precautions.
