Mechanism of Action

Cyclopentolate hydrochloride is an antimuscarinic agent that blocks M₁ and M₃ receptors in the eye, producing mydriasis and cycloplegia by inhibiting sphincter pupillae and ciliary muscle contraction. It penetrates ocular tissues rapidly.

Benefits and Advantages

Used in ophthalmologic‑pharmacology studies, parasympathetic blockade research, accommodation‑pathway modelling and muscarinic‑receptor analysis.

Side Effects and Risks

Risks include blurred vision, photophobia, increased intraocular pressure, CNS effects (especially in children) and anticholinergic systemic reactions. Handle with ocular‑agent precautions.
