Mechanism of Action
Colesevelam hydrochloride is a hydrophilic polymeric bileacid sequestrant that binds bile acids in the intestine, preventing their reabsorption. This causes increased hepatic conversion of cholesterol into bile acids, upregulates LDL receptors and reduces serum LDL cholesterol. It also modulates glucose metabolism through FXRmediated pathways.

Side Effects and Risks
Risks include constipation, dyspepsia, vitaminK malabsorption, drugbinding interactions and GI discomfort. Handle as a highbinding polymeric compound.
