Mechanism of Action
Ciprofibrate is a fibrate‑class hypolipidemic agent that activates peroxisome proliferator‑activated receptor‑alpha (PPAR‑α). Activation increases β‑oxidation of fatty acids, enhances lipoprotein‑lipase activity and decreases serum triglycerides while modestly improving HDL levels. It regulates genes controlling lipid metabolism and inflammation.

Used in PPAR‑α signalling research, lipid‑metabolism studies, triglyceride‑lowering pathway modelling, hepatic fatty‑acid oxidation research and fibrate SAR analysis.
Side Effects and Risks
Risks include hepatotoxicity, myopathy (higher risk with statins), gallstones, GI symptoms and elevated liver enzymes. Handle with lipid‑modulating compound precautions.
