Mechanism of Action
Chlophedianol hydrochloride is a centrally acting non‑opioid antitussive. It suppresses the cough reflex by reducing excitability within the medullary cough center. It also exhibits mild anticholinergic and local anesthetic properties, reducing airway irritation and secretions. Its broad receptor profile differentiates it from opioid antitussives.

Side Effects and Risks
Risks include drowsiness, dizziness, anticholinergic effects (dry mouth, blurred vision), nausea and mild CNS stimulation at high concentrations. Handle as a CNS‑active compound.
