Product Description
Mechanism of action
Calcitonin is a peptide hormone produced by thyroid C cells that reduces plasma calcium by inhibiting osteoclast-mediated bone resorption and increasing renal calcium excretion. It binds to calcitonin receptors (CTR), activating cAMP pathways that suppress osteoclast activity.
Benefits and advantages
Used in bone-metabolism studies, osteoporosis models, calcium-homeostasis research, peptidereceptor signalling analysis and endocrine-regulation investigations.
Side effects and risks
Risks include nausea, flushing, injection-site irritation, hypersensitivity reactions and potential tachyphylaxis. Handle as a bioactive peptide with appropriate containment.
