Product Description

Mechanism of action

Butoxycaine hydrochloride is an ester-type local anaesthetic that blocks voltage-gated sodium channels in sensory nerve fibres. It prevents initiation and propagation of action potentials, producing surface and mucosal anaesthesia with rapid onset.

Benefits and advantages

Used in sodium-channel pharmacology, peripheral-nerve electrophysiology, topical-anaesthetic development, nociception research and ester-versus-amide anaesthetic comparison.

Side effects and risks

Risks include allergic reactions typical of ester anaesthetics, methemoglobinemia (rare), CNS toxicity and cardiovascular depression. Handle with local-anaesthetic safety measures.
