Product Description

Mechanism of action

Butinoline is an anticholinergic compound structurally related to tropane derivatives. It acts as a competitive antagonist at muscarinic acetylcholine receptors, particularly M₁ and M₃ subtypes, inhibiting parasympathetic signalling in smooth muscle and exocrine glands. This results in reduced secretions, smooth-muscle relaxation and modulation of central cholinergic tone.

Benefits and advantages

Used in autonomic-nervous-system research, muscarinic-receptor pharmacology, smooth-muscle contractility studies, bronchial-tone modelling, and comparative SAR analyses of anticholinergic agents.

Side effects and risks

Risks include dry mouth, blurred vision, urinary retention, constipation, tachycardia and CNS confusion at high doses. Handle as a potent antimuscarinic with appropriate PPE.
