Product Description
Mechanism of action
Budesonide is a potent glucocorticoid with high topical antiinflammatory activity and strong glucocorticoidreceptor affinity. After cellular uptake, it suppresses transcription of proinflammatory genes, reduces cytokine release and inhibits immunecell recruitment. Its high firstpass metabolism limits systemic exposure.

Used in respiratoryinflammation research, gastrointestinalinflammation modelling, corticosteroidreceptor binding studies, aerosolformulation development, inflammatorypathway assays and comparative glucocorticoid potency testing.
Side effects and risks
Risks include adrenal suppression, oral candidiasis (in inhaled use), dysphonia, systemic glucocorticoid effects at high doses and local irritation. Handle using steroidactive compound precautions.
