Mechanism of action
Bromofosfamide is a nitrogenmustardbased alkylating agent related to ifosfamide and cyclophosphamide. It forms DNA crosslinks through aziridiniumion intermediates, leading to replication arrest, apoptosis and inhibition of rapidly dividing tumour cells.
Benefits and advantages
Used in oncology research, DNAalkylation studies, cytotoxicity modelling, apoptosispathway analysis, nitrogenmustard SAR investigation and chemotherapeuticresistance research.
Side effects and risks
Risks include severe myelosuppression, neurotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, haemorrhagic cystitis and mutagenicity. Requires full cytotoxichandling PPE and controlledenvironment procedures.
