Mechanism of action
Apamin is a highly selective neurotoxic peptide derived from bee venom that blocks smallconductance calciumactivated potassium (SK) channels. By inhibiting SK2 and SK3 channels in neurons, apamin increases neuronal excitability and modulates afterhyperpolarisation, playing an important role in studies of synaptic plasticity and central nervous system rhythmogenesis.
