Product Description

Mechanism of action

Alprenolol hydrochloride is the water-soluble hydrochloride salt of alprenolol, sharing the same non-selective beta-adrenergic blocking properties. It antagonises β1 receptors in the myocardium to reduce heart rate and contractility and blocks β2 receptors in bronchial and vascular smooth muscle, influencing airway tone and peripheral resistance.

Benefits and advantages

The hydrochloride salt form offers improved solubility and stability for formulation of oral and parenteral dosage forms. It is suitable for precise dose titration in clinical preparations and for use as a standard compound in analytical and pharmacological assays that require reliable dissolution characteristics.

Side effects and risks

Side effects mirror those of alprenolol base and other non-selective beta-blockers, including bradycardia, fatigue, hypotension, sleep disturbances and possible bronchoconstriction in predisposed patients. Overdosage can result in severe hypotension, cardiogenic shock or conduction block. Appropriate personal protective equipment and handling protocols should be applied when working with the concentrated API.
